Texas Scholars

Take A Look at Our Texas Scholars Agency Fair

The Texas Scholar Fair was held on Tuesday, September 12th at Odessa College from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.  More than 20 agencies  were on hand to visit with the students and to tell them about upcoming Texas Scholar volunteer opportunities.  Texas Scholars is a program for 9th through 12th grade students in Odessa that enables them to volunteer at approved organizations.  By the time the student graduates, they must have at least 50 volunteer hours and this makes them eligible for the Texas Scholar graduation cord, along with a potential scholarship at Odessa College and UT Permian Basin.

What is Texas Scholars?

Texas Scholars is open to students 9th through 12th grade.  The Texas Scholars program partners students with local organizations in providing volunteer opportunities.  By the time a student graduates from high school, they will have successfully volunteered at least 50 hours of community service within Ector County.  This program also motivates youth to become productive students, employees and citizens through the support and involvement in the business community.  The program has now expanded to include ECISD, Compass Academy and Richard Milburn.

Since the inception of the Texas Scholar program back in 1997, participating agencies have benefitted from 323,373 volunteer hours from participating students.
